A FUN & UNIQUE FITNESS CHALLENGE

A couple of months ago, I came across a neat web site, it's call "Get Fit on Route 66". Obviously, it's an American site but it still caught my curiosity.

It's simple to use. You sign up and choose your type of vehicle that you would like to drive. That's it! Then at the end of each day, you simply log on and input how many minutes you were physically active that day. The vehicle then starts up and heads down the highway. Each minute of exercise equals one mile. At each stop, it gives you a brief description of the town or city that you ended up at that day. Your final destination is the west coast!

They provide tons of ideas for being active, different recipes and other fitness tidbits. If you are the type of person that needs a goal or destination to help motivate you, then this site is definitely for you. You can do this by yourself or as a group. Challenge your friends, make it a family challenge to see who can reach the Pacific ocean the quickest. Hope you enjoy this! I did.

Check it out at aarp.getfitonroute66.com and take a cruise across America.

GEOCACHING

Well everyone we're really starting to settle into our Physical Education program. We began the year with some fitness activities, name games and rubber chicken activities to ease into the program. I enjoy using different games to keep people active. I will definitely have more of these games in future classes. Currently, we are moving to more traditional activities with the grades 6&7's participating in Soccer activities and the 8's learning about softball.

Thanks for all the great ideas and activities that you have sent... please keep those ideas coming. I cannot fit them into the program at this moment, but I will try and fit them at some point during the year.

Remember my expectations:
  1. Be prepared with proper gym clothing (T-shirts, shorts, track pants, sweatshirts)
  2. Participate - try everything I have set for you.

Here is a new activity that you should try. I'm going to try and purchase a few GPS's for our school so that we can try this with our students. It's a great individual, partner or family activity that gets you outdoors and active. My family and I just started this a few weeks ago and we love it. It's called GEOCACHING! Did you know that there are over 1700 hidden treasures around the Fredericton area.

I have a video clip from youtube that will explain this much better than I can.

To register go to http://www.geocaching.com/! This is a great family activity. The only down fall is that you do need a GPS but you can find a decent 2nd hand one for around $50-60. For a second hand one try http://www.kijiji.com/ and then type Fredericton (for our area) and look under computers. If you go to www.GPScentral.com you can also find some great deals on GPS units. ENJOY and Happy geocaching!

WELCOME TO MOOREPE'S BLOG

Hi everyone! I'm really excited about the upcoming school year. I have a lot of ideas that I am going to share in our Physical Education classes with you. I would love to create a program that has lots of energy, variety and learning. I'm also excited about learning new things from you... THE STUDENTS! That is why I set up this blog. As often as possible (hopefully weekly), I will update this blog with ideas for you to take home and try. Don't keep these ideas to yourself, share them with your family members. Get everyone involved! Bottom line, 45 minutes @ 2x's a week isn't going to cut it. We need to be active every day!!!! It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something and enjoy it.

The second reason I created this blog is to get feedback from you the student. I know a lot of you have been at summer camps or involved in other activities and you probably have some really neat ideas that you would like to share with the rest of us. If possible, I'll use it in our PE classes. However, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to do that. I can GUARANTEE that I will share it with everyone else.

For example, if you have a neat idea for a soccer drill that you think would fit into what we're doing in class then let me know either in person and/or this blog. If you just played a high energy game on the Nintendo Wii that was lots of fun, share it with us! If you learned an awesome game at camp.... SHARE IT!!! I want to hear your ideas as well!

A third reason that I wanted to set up this blog is to show off YOUR work. If you improved in a certain activity or obtained a goal that you set or simply have a neat idea. WELL... you deserve to be recognized for that and I will do my best to do that for you on this blog.

If you have any comments, please leave them and keep checking back here weekly for new ideas on how to keep active!

Thanks and best of luck in the new school year to everyone!

Mr. Moore
